About the Position:
Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Pathways Intern Program. Click here for more information on Pathways program participation. The Department of the Army Pathways Interns may be converted to a permanent position within 120 days of successful completion of the program.
This intern position is designed to prepare a student trainee for employment after graduation as a Contract Specialist, GS-1102-11. Interns will be assigned to one or more higher graded specialists who will assign tasks designed to increase familiarity with the target occupation, in a real world work environment.
This opportunity follows a standard promotional path:
1. Internship at the GS-05 with the full performance grade of GS-05. After completion of Internship requirements, conversion to the entry level for the target occupation of position with progression to the GS-11.

Internship for current students in good standing at an accredited education
As a Pathways Intern at the U.S. Army Contracting Command Aberdeen Proving Ground (ACC-APG) you will be provided a unique opportunity to receive on-the-job experience in Government Contracting and the procurement of goods and services in the Federal Sector. You will serve as a contract specialist performing developmental assignments involving procurement of supplies or services through forma1 advertising, applying standardized specifications and under established market conditions. Performs assignments on a rotational basis in all functional areas of the Contracting Division.
Reviews requisitions to determine that proper specifications or purchase descriptions are included in solicitation documents, Selects clauses to cover special conditions, such as inspection and acceptance, marking and packaging, quantity variation, price differential, or transportation costs. Contacts technical personnel to resolve questions of applicability of specifications, classification of terms, or acceptance of substitute items.
Coordinates contracting activities with other Government agencies having interrelated requirements; e.g., obtaining wage rate information from the Department of Labor, requesting audit reports or preaward surveys from the Defense Contract Audit Agency or Defense Contract Management Command, obtaining clearances from the Small Business Administration, and advertising work to be contracted in the Commerce Business Daily or the Federal Acquisition Computer Network (FACNET).

Internship for current students in good standing at an accredited educational institution
The ideal candidate for this internship is enrolled as a Senior in a baccalaureate program or enrolled in their first year of a graduate program, and has declared a major directly related to contracting, such as business administration, business finance, marketing or economics. The ideal candidate will have excellent grades, and participates in extra-curricular activities such as active membership in a nationally recognized professional association or honor society. Strong candidates will have academic experiences which include preparing presentation materials such as PowerPoint slides, writing reports, and public speaking.
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-05, students must have successfully completed 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. One full academic year is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent one year of full-time study.

This internship prepares students for conversion to the Contract Specialist GS-1102 occupation.
