The VA Caribbean Healthcare System is recruiting for a full-time radiologist to serve as Chief, Radiology Service. The incumbent will function as the primary advisor to the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff and Medical Center Director on Radiology programs as well as Radiation Oncology program at the medical center. In this capacity, the Chief is fully accountable and has responsibility for the effective and efficient management / supervision (planning, directing, organizing, and coordinating) of radiology programs and services.
The incumbent will be responsible to perform the following duties to include but not limited to:
· Exercising administrative, programmatic, clinical, and academic oversight of radiology programs to ensure delivery of quality services.
· Coordinating and integrating both clinical and administrative aspects of the programs into a comprehensive package of services to meet the needs of the veteran population.
· Continuously reviewing and evaluating the professional performance of all individuals with clinical privileges.
· Monitors and promotes compliance with VHA regulations and professional standards and ethical conduct.
· Assures the quality of certified professional staff being recruited and hired through a credentialing and privileging process that meets VA and Joint Commission requirements.
· Ensuring that there is compliance with all Joint Commission functions and standards that are applicable to radiology programs (assessment of the patient; care of the patient; patient rights/organizational ethics, continuum of care; safety, etc.)
· Assures that all Radiology Service employees are in compliance with regulations pertaining to internal and external professional activities as well as conflict of interest considerations.
· Ensures that appropriate systems are in place to review, analyze, and evaluate patient care activities and that corrective actions are initiated and carried out as needed.
· Monitors and ensures medical staff compliance with agency regulations, Medical Staff Bylaws, VA Caribbean Healthcare System policies, pertinent Joint Commission standards, and other appropriate regulations as they apply.
· Ensures that clinical, education, and research programs that complement the primary mission of patient care are established maintained, and reviewed regularly.
· Participates in the development of long and short term goals in support of VISN VHA mission and goals.
· Participates in allocation of resources throughout Radiology Service and modifies programs to best meet the needs of the Veteran population, including space allocation for patient care, research and education programs.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; with on-call duties required; may include weekends and holidays.
Functional Statement Title/#: Physician/Chief Radiology Service.
Physical Requirements: The position will require walking, standing or sitting for periods of up to 10 to 12 hours each day. In addition, the incumbent will need to bend, lift and turn. Under urgent or emergency situations, the incumbent will need to run, sprint or run up or down stairs. During on call weeks the physician may have to stay up part or all night and thus may experience short term sleep deprivation.
(1) Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
Residency Training. Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are:
(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or
(2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.

English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
