You will serve as a Civil Engineer (Structural), GS-07, in a developmental position. The duties are essentially the same as shown below; however, they are performed under closer supervision and with more extensive review than at the full performance level.
At the full performance level of this position, GS-11, you will be responsible for the accomplishment of structural engineering assignments in connection with a major civil works construction program. You will perform assignments either as an independent designer of the more difficult engineering features of a project or as a group leader responsible for direction of the accomplishment of several subordinates.
Typical assignments involve: Applying standard engineering methods and techniques in the performance of preliminary and final design including stress and stability analysis, estimates, and typical sections for steel features such as tainter of slide gates or concrete features. Based upon design analysis, prepares the preparation of contract plans including final layouts, typical sections and other drawings.

To qualify based on your experience alone, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.
Specialized experience is defined as: experience applying engineering principles and theories as it applies to the structural makeup of steel and concrete structures. Specialized experience: To qualify based on experience alone, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level GS-05.

The ideal candidate for this position has a GPA of 3.00 or higher towards a degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural design, to successful completion of college coursework in structural analysis, strength of materials, concrete design, and steel design and related academic, paid, or volunteer experiences.
