There are currently two vacancies, one is full time the other is part time with a work schedule of no more than 40 hours bi-weekly. These positions are located within the Directorate of Mental Health, Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). The selectee will spend 75% of his/her time in direct patient care and 25% involved in teaching and other academic areas of Graduate Medical Education (GME). Direct patient is in adult outpatient, adult inpatient or child and adolescent services.

In this position, you will perform meaningful professional work in the field of Psychiatry. A typical day includes:
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. DEGREE: MD or DO from an accredited school in the United States or Canada. Is your degree from a foreign medical school? If yes, then you must have a permanent ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate. RESIDENCY/EXPERIENCE: 5 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Psychiatry (e.g., 3 year Psychiatry residency and 2 years fellowship and/or experience, or any combination totaling 5 years). This includes, but is not limited to, the following: Examination, diagnosis, and treatment of people who are mentally or emotionally ill or suffering from personality disturbances, and/or management of psychiatric services.
LICENSING: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Satisfy BUMEDs clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:
- Completion of a residency program in the specialty approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.
- Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Psychiatry Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).
- No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.
- Board certification is desired but not required.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor. Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Failure to document the current certification in your resume will result in an ineligible rating.
