VAMC Tomah is one of seven facilities that comprise Veterans Integrated Services Network 12 (VISN12) which is administratively headquartered at Hines, IL, and includes facilities in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

The Medical Director for Acute Care is responsible for the leadership and oversight of Urgent Care, the Hospitalists, and Medical Officers of the Day (approximately 5 physicians in this pool). He/she must establish a culture of quality and safety within these areas and ensure that quality, safety, and appropriateness of acute care are continually monitored and evaluated.
The Medical Director for Acute Care is the lead physician in Urgent Care, with additional coverage provided by Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and the MOD team. The Medical Officers of the Day (MOD) cover Urgent Care and the Hospital Unit during nights and weekends, and other day-time hours as scheduling permits. The MODs must also respond to emergencies throughout the medical center, including in the Community Living Centers (CLC) during nights and weekends. The Medical Director for Acute Care is responsible for directing and coordinating medical care on these units and among these work groups, as well as for supervising other physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who work on the units. The Medial Director for Acute Care is responsible for participating in the creation of policies, procedures, and guidelines for clinical care, treatment, services, and processes on the unit; ensuring direct reports receive required training and orientation; participation in the selection of new medical staff for Acute Care units; monitoring the performance of medical services in Acute Care; understanding the policies and programs of oversight organizations that affect Acute Care units; and maintain intimate familiarity and knowledge on Emergency Department Integration Software (EDIS) and the Emergency Medicine Management Tool (EMMT).

Preferred Qualifications:
· Be certified in Emergency Medicine or possess another board certification, experience, and a knowledge base of Emergency Medicine.
· Experience and competence in management and administration of clinical services in an Urgent Care Center or an Emergency Department.
