Plans, organizes, and implements a well-rounded swimming program
Oversees day-to-day operation of swimming facility. Observes and enforces safety rules and regulations.
Rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning and renders first aid to injuries. Uses a variety of techniques such as artificial respiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and first aid.
Cleans and maintains the swimming facility. Cleans swimming assigned areas such as bathrooms, decks, locker rooms, showers, and pool according to established schedules and instructions.
Performs gate control duties. Verifies that customers are authorized to use facility by checking appropriate identification. Collects admission fees, makes change, and completes appropriate administrative documents, and turns in daily cashier reports. May make deposits.
Conducts swimming lessons following prescribed lesson plan. Participates in required in-service training and maintains currency, capability, and certifications to perform lifesaving and water rescue, to administer basic first aid and CPR, and to provide water safety instruction for the activities and skill levels taught.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Position requires pre-employment screening for swimming ability, rescue skills, and CPR skills.
2. Participation in required in-service training and maintenance of physical capabilities to perform rescues throughout the period of employment are conditions of employment for this position. All certifications must remain current during the period of employment.
3. If position is identified as having "regular contact with children" (e.g., youth swim lessons instructor) in accordance with public law, a criminal background check must be completed.
4. Some physical exertion is required in effecting a swimming rescue. Must be able to lift and carry 45 pounds and over. Much of the time is spent sitting, standing, or walking; however, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, or reaching is required. A physical may be required.
5. May be required to work other than normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
6. May provide advice and guidance (e.g., orientation, lesson plans, etc.) to lower grade lifeguards.
You must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university:Pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree (Junior/Senior only), Graduate or Professional Degree
A U.S. citizen or a national (resident of American Samoa or Swains Island).
