As a Laborer, you will assist skilled trades/craftsmen by retrieving tools or materials, holding, moving, or carrying items; and cleaning equipment and work areas. You will also dig and grade trenches with hand tools; fill and level holes in roadways; set forms, mix and pour concrete; operate a power lawn mower; load and unload trucks; move, sort, arrange, and stack a variety of supply items. You may be required operate a jack hammer or other heavy power tools.
Physical Effort: Work requires very heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as frequently lifting and moving objects weighing over 23 kilograms (50 pounds), and using heavy power tools and equipment. Tasks typically involve continuous walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and standing.
Working Conditions: Work is performed outside in all kinds of weather and temperature extremes, and inside in areas that may be dusty, drafty, and/or noisy. Equipment, tools, and tasks involved frequently require special care to avoid serious injury. Work may also be performed around river or lake structures, which present the hazard of falling and/or drowning.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Screen-out Element: Reliability and Dependability
No specific length of experience is required; however, your application package must demonstrate your reliability and dependability to perform the duties of a Laborer at the WG-03 grade level. At a minimum, your level of experience must show that you have performed simple manual tasks that require a basic understanding of cleaning, grounds maintenance and lifting procedures; performed routine operator maintenance of hand tools and equipment; safely used industrial cleaners (typically used in households) and basic hand and yard tools and equipment, such as a rake, pitch fork, wheelbarrow, hand-pump sprayer, hand truck, shovel, push lawn mower (manual), hammer, screwdriver, wrench, and pliers; and performed routine work assignments with little or no assistance (e.g., picking up all paper and trash around the work site three times a week).
