Clinical Responsibilities (75%-85 % of time)
-Provide a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessments and utilizing the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques to provide quality care.
-Provide a full range of therapeutic interventions including; diagnostic assessments, medication evaluations and management, suicide risk assessments and crisis intervention
-Monitor overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, PTSD, substance abuse, and other psychiatric disorders in various clinical settings.
-Serve as a mental health team leader with responsibilities for coordinating consults and triage of specialty clinic referrals.
-Participate in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborate with team members to enhance coordination of comprehensive patient care.
-Order diagnostic tests and consultations and discriminate between normal and abnormal findings to make appropriate treatment decisions.
-Ensure the practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice psychiatric guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations.
-Participate in the supervision and training of the psychiatric residency program and perform other duties directly related to the position to include on call duty.
Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday (On-call as needed weekends and Holidays)

Physical Requirements: Incumbent needs to be mobile in that the job requires: sitting, walking, and bending, duties of this position require the ability to stand. Work requires trips daily from employee's work-site to other areas throughout the Medical Center
a. Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.
b. Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
c. Licensure and Registration
(1) Physicians (Except Residents). Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.
(2) Residents. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia before the second year of VA residency, or meet any licensure, registration or other equivalent requirements established for residents of non-VA hospitals with which the VA facility is affiliated for training purposes. The resident must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
d. First-Year Residency (Internship). Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidate's acceptability for residency training.
e. Physical Standards. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
f. English Language Proficiency. Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
