The mission of the Office of Field Operations is to provide collection expertise and feedback to the development of Bureau survey programs, to effectively and efficiently execute survey activities both directly and through grantees, and to conduct an active program of information and outreach for Bureau products. The Compensation Division is collecting data for the National Compensation Survey and Occupational Requirements Survey programs.
This is an appointment under the DOL Recent Graduates program. The program duration is one year. Upon successful completion of the program and at the agency's discretion, the appointee may be converted to a term or permanent position in the competitive service.
Appointee must sign a DOL Pathways Recent Graduate Program Participant Agreement.
The entire duration of the Recent Graduate Appointment constitutes a trial period.
Appointee must be a U.S. citizen in order to be eligible for conversion to a permanent position in the competitive service upon completion of the program.

As an entry level Economist/ Statistician for the Bureau of Labor Statistics working in the field to support compensation programs, you will represent the Bureau as a technical expert with your prominent enterprises that by nature of their size or significance are essential to the reliability of national, regional, or local survey results. Your duties will include:
Basic Qualification Requirement:
Applicants Must meet one of the following to qualify for an Economist or Statistician (Economics):
ECONOMIST: Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
STATISTICS: Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. or Combination of Education and experience: courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
Education Substitution: In addition to meeting the Basic Entry Qualification Requirement: 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement. S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.

IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE BASIC EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, ALL APPLICANTS MUST POSSESS THE SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AS STATED BELOW.
Specialized Experience: In addition to the basic education requirements applicant must have (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level of the position which the applicant is applying. Specialized experience is experience in, or directly related to economics or to one of the specialized fields of economics. This experience must have equipped the candidate with the knowledge and ability to perform fully the work of the position.
Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, 05, in the Federal Service. Economist: Examples of qualifying experience include: individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation; supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; or teaching assignments in a college or university that included both class instruction in economics subjects and one of the following (1) personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems. Statistics: Experience with statistical work such as sampling, collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and applying statistical techniques i.e., skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, etc.

Eligibility Requirement: To be eligible for appointment, you must meet requirement a or b:
a. Completed all requirements for an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two years prior to the date on which the servicing HRO receives the individual's application; or
b. Was released or discharged from active duty within the previous two years, where the applicant is a veteran who, due to a military service obligation, was precluded from applying for a recent graduate position during any portion of the two-year eligibility period following completion of his/her degree or certificate requirements, provided that not more than six years have transpired since the applicant completed the requirements for a degree or certificate
