The Staff Pharmacist must be a licensed pharmacist preferably with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, Clinical Practice Residency or other equivalent experience; responsible for the pharmaceutical needs in the Outpatient section of Pharmacy Service. Programs that the Outpatient Pharmacist support include, but are not limited to: Behavioral Health Clinic (BHC), Acute Inpatient Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM), Operating Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF), Outpatient Substance Abuse Clinic (OSAC), and Mental Health Rehabilitation Treatment Programs. Collaborates with physicians to design treatment regimens. Challenges and issues relevant to veterans with chronic illness who are achieving symptom management and functional independence. Reviews medication profiles for each patient to detect and prevent adverse drug reactions, therapeutic duplications, dosing errors, and drug-drug interactions. Actively collaborates with other medical professionals in the design and implementation of research protocols, collection of data, and participates in the analysis and interpretation of the results. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: (Candidates must meet both the Basic and Grade Requirements).
I. Basic Requirements:
a. Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.
b. Education. Graduate of a degree program in pharmacy from an approved college or university. The degree program must have been approved by the American council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE), or prior to the establishment of ACPE, have been a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). Note: Applicants must provide a copy of their transcripts to be considered.
c . Licensure. Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. Note: Applicants must provide a copy of their currently active license to be considered.
d. Loss of Credential.An employee in this occupation who fails to obtain licensure/certification/registration within the required time frame, or who fails to maintain the required licensure/certification/registration must be removed from the occupation, which may also result in termination of employment.
e. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.
II. Grade Requirements:
GS-12: Specialized Experience At least one (1) year specialized experience equivalent to a GS-11 Pharmacist in federal service relating to the position is required.
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience are: Designing a therapeutic regimen or plan based on patient-specific
information that includes establishing a therapeutic endpoint, selecting an appropriate drug and related therapy, and establishing an appropriate dosage regimen; Providing consultation on selection of appropriate therapeutic regimens as a follow-up of non-therapeutic drug concentrations obtained from psychiatric patients; Providing the psychiatric physicians and nurse practitioners a focal resource for discussion of psychiatric and other therapeutic problems requiring intervention; Actively collaborating with the MH&BS section in the design and implementation of research protocols, collection of data, and participating in the analysis and interpretation of the results; etc...
