The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is a consolidated healthcare system that includes VA Medical Centers in Montgomery and Tuskegee Alabama as well as Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) in Dothan Alabama, Ft. Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is seeking energetic full time permanent Physicians (Emergency Department /MOD). Must be board certified / board eligible in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine or Family Practice. The selected Physician is accountable to the Associate Chief of Staff for Acute Care & Specialties and the Chief of Staff. He/She must be proficient in emergency medical situations, experience in the operation and administration of the Emergency Department and committed to public service. Duties include, but are not limited to: patient assessment and treatment/management of urgent/emergent conditions, acute conditions, exacerbation of chronic conditions, vesting of new veterans, admission and/or transfer of urgent/emergent veterans, providing medical clearance for veterans requiring admission to inpatient Mental Health, and for providing care to CAVHCS staff who becomes ill or injured while on duty in the absence of the Occupational Health Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. The MOD reports during non-administrative duty hours, i.e. prior to 8:00 a.m., and after 4:30 p.m. provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.
Normal Work Schedule: Rotating Tours (determined by coverage needs).
Physical Requirements: Lifting 15-44 pounds, Carrying 15-44 pounds, Use of fingers, Near Vision correctable 13"-16" Jaeger 1-4, Both eyes required, depth perception, hearing aid permitted. Must be able to communicate, ability to use computer.
Basic Requirements:
· U.S. Citizenship (Non-citizens may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)
· Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: (1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted. (2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. (3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
· Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
· Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), 7407(d).
Preferred Experience: Board Certified / Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Practice.
