Duties:
The Selectee will provide security and support for the Police Service Line. The Selectee will serve in a Police Instructor level position designed to provide the knowledge, skills, abilities, and experiences necessary at the full performance grade level of GS-7. The Selectee will organize work to achieve approved goals, consulting with the Assistant Chief of Police when problems are encountered. He/She will be responsible for both pre-instructional and instructional actions and improvement of assigned courses in area of law enforcement. The Selectee will use a variety of instructional techniques including lecture, seminar, conference and group discussion, programmed instruction, self-paced instruction, hands on, and multimedia instruction. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The duties of this position requires moderate to physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. Routine patrol requires regular and recurring physical exertion, long hours of standing, walking, driving and similar activities. Responds to alarms, pursues suspects, participates in training activities, climbs stairs, walks during assigned foot patrols in and around the large buildings, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restrictive areas during search or pursuit activities, or defending oneself or others against physical attacks. Body armor must be worn and duty equipment (pistol with extra ammunition, OC spray, baton, handcuffs, radio, gloves, keys, etc.) must be regularly worn or carried. The wearing of this equipment significantly amplifies the physical strain experienced by the employee during physical exertion during periods of hot weather. Agility, dexterity and strength are needed to pursue, apprehend and detain uncooperative suspects. On a regular and recurring basis the work requires strenuous exertion physically restraining disorderly individuals to prevent harm to others or the individual.
