The VA Central Iowa Health Care System provides a full continuum of care between the Des Moines campus and our Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's) and is one of the Medical Centers that make up the VA Midwest Health Care Network (VISN 23). Employee selected may be expected to perform duties at other duty sites within VA Central Iowa Health Care System based on the needs of the organization.

Duties of the provider:
Physician will provide consultation services and follow up of ophthalmology patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting, at the VA Medical center in Des Moines, or one of the affiliated CBOCs (Community Based Outpatient Clinics).
Physician should have expertise in invasive and non-invasive surgical techniques as established in current delineation of privileges.
Physician will provide ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment and obtain informed consents prior to performing ophthalmologic procedures.
The incumbent in this position is expected to provide supervision for ophthalmology residents in accordance with ACGME and VA guidelines. Discharge of these responsibilities and performance will be noted in the physician's performance evaluation
Work Schedule: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call may be required depending upon the needs of the service.

Physical Requirements: Placement in this position is subject to meeting the physical requirements of the position. This includes: Walking (up to 2 hours); standing (up to 2 hours); Light and moderate lifting (up to 44 lbs.) light to moderate carrying (up to 44 lbs); straight pulling and pushing, reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/50 and 20/100 in the other; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted).
