You will work under direct supervision of the HV Electrician Supervisor performing the following duties.
Works on the underground and overhead high voltage primary distribution systems serving the electrical requirements of Yosemite National Park, which is a self contained distribution system.
Installs, tests, repairs and maintains transformer pad mount (submersible and pole mounted), voltage regulators, air switches, submersible switches, circuit breakers, control apparatus and substation equipment.
Will dismantle, clean, adjust and install equipment in substations, underground vaults, and on utility poles. Responsible for locating existing underground utilities, installing conduits, pulling in conductors, splice and terminate conductors, ensure proper phasing of circuits and equipment, troubleshoot distribution circuits and control equipment to locate and correct the cause of power outages.
Will be responsible for installing emergency cutouts and making substitution of power lines and equipment, occasionally working on energized circuits with approved hotline tools. In addition, the High Voltage Electrician may perform a variety of tasks such as: collecting oil samples, changing oil in transformers and switches, inspecting insulators, arrestors, poles and overhead infrastructure, installing system grounding, performing substation maintenance and removing brush and small trees from equipment areas.
Operates one or more motor vehicles including crane trucks, line trucks and bucket trucks, and tows as a combination vehicle a backhoe on a trailer (approximate gross weight of 32,000 lbs). Some trucks may have a manual transmission with four to ten forward gears as well as high and low auxiliary transmission.
You must possess, or obtain within 1 year of employment, and maintain a current Class A Commercial Driver's License.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. You will lift, carry and pull materials, tools and related equipment to the job site. You will be subject to climbing steep hillsides over rough mountain areas and you will be required to climb power poles. You will stand for extended periods of time while making power line repairs and you will use coordination of eyes, hands, legs and body in the daily work of this position.
