The Assistant Regional Director for External Affairs is a member of the Regional Directorate Team and oversees the region's communications program as an integral and essential component of natural resource conservation. The incumbent handles high profile issues that are of regional, national and international significance. Core elements of the External Affairs program include Congressional and Native American affairs, intergovernmental affairs, public affairs and media relations, social media and Web page management, video and publication production, internal communications, and outreach. The position supervisors a creative team of communications professionals and provides guidance to field station employees who carry out communications responsibilities. They will also work closely with headquarters staff in Washington, D.C. as a member of the Service's External Affairs national leadership team.
