The Office of Inspector General (OIG), works within the U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to prevent or stop waste, fraud and abuse in departmental programs. The OIG also consults with the Congress about programs in progress and proposed new laws and regulations. As a Supervisory Auditor, you will be responsible for managing audits and reviews of DOT's surface transportation programs. The incumbent's specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Leading audit teams through all phases of the audit cycle from the project proposal phase through issuance of a final report.
Analyzing and evaluating, on a quantitative/qualitative basis, the effectiveness of surface transportation program operations in meeting established goals and objectives, including intended cost savings.
Identifying techniques or methods to use in gathering data and documentation and developing new lines of inquiry and potential audit areas.
Developing audit findings and recommendations.
Assuring that audit work papers and documentation are prepared in accordance with government auditing standards and OIG audit procedures.
Assuring that audit documentation is properly stored and managed in electronic audit workpaper filing systems (i.e. Teammate and Pentana).
Preparing audit reports, Congressional testimony, and other written audit products.
Reviewing corrective actions on prior findings and evaluating the adequacy of those corrective actions.
