This is an interdisciplinary professional position involving duties and responsibilities closely related to more than one professional occupation: 0101 (Social Science), 0110 (Economist), 1515 (Operations Research), 1530 (Statistics), or 1550 (Computer Science). As a result, the position is classifiable to any of the occupational series shown, and the nature of the work is such that persons with education and experience in any of these professions may be considered equally well qualified to do the work.
Duties:
Analyze complex datasets, organize and manage statistical data, perform technical analyses and studies, and develop other analyses.
Performs data analytics, and conducts statistical analysis, modeling, and simulation.
Develops analytical approaches and analyzes data sets consisting of qualitative, quantitative, structured, and unstructured data types using advanced techniques.
Develops data projects with national impact, and is responsible for the full lifecycle of projects, from concept to final reports.
Prepares reports, presentations, outreach materials, and briefings that convey findings to NSF leadership and other stakeholders and audiences through the creation and presentation of professional documents such as PowerPoint presentations and white papers.
Communicates findings from studies, evaluations, and research projects to the public, other federal government agencies and user groups.
Plans, directs, coordinates, and writes technical publications, briefs, working papers, information graphics, other publications, and association and journal articles.

Depending on the professional occupation that you want to be considered for, to qualify you must meet at least one of the following basic education and/or experience requirement:
GS-0101 (Social Science):
1. Degree: social, behavioral or economic sciences, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR
2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in 1 above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. OR
3. Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
GS-0110 (Economist):
1. Degree: full four year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's degree in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus OR
2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major in economics, plus appropriate economics experience or additional education.
GS-1515 (Operations Research):
1. Degree: in operations research. OR
2. At least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
GS-1530 (Statistics):
1. Degree: bachelor's degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in math & stats combined but with at least 6 semester hours in stats), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, engineering; or social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, or psychology. OR
2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in 1 above, plus additional education & experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree. The experience should include professional statistical work such as sampling, collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, & applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple & multiple correlation, analysis of variance, & tests of significance.
GS-1550 (Computer Science):
1. Degree: bachelor's degree in computer science. OR
2. Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours include a combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
In addition to meeting at least one of the basic education and/or experience requirements described above, you must also meet the following specialized experience.
For the GS-12 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: Applying principles in the fields of statistics, economics, social science, data science and/or other relevant disciplines to analyze, organize, manage, and interpret statistical data and complex datasets. Analyzing, designing, and developing data visualization, data mining and optimization tools and technologies in a variety of business functions.
