Specialized Experience:
You may qualify at the GS-07 grade level, if you possess at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the private sector applying analytical and actuarial techniques to research and analyze mathematical data. Examples may include: performing analysis and evaluation of records, documents and relevant data; or reviewing and calculating accrued benefits.
You may qualify at the GS-09 grade level, if you possess at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the private sector applying analytical and actuarial techniques to perform statistical analysis. Examples may include: reviewing asset allocations and adjusting estimated mortality, disability, or retirement rates.
Combination of Education and Experience:
You may qualify at both grade levels based on a combination of education and experience for which both education and experience are acceptable.
Who is eligible for the Recent Graduates Program? Any individual who completed all requirements for an associate, bachelor, master's, professional, or doctorate degree from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two years meets the basic requirement to apply for the Recent Graduate Program;

Any veteran released or discharged from active duty within the previous two years but not more than six years following completion of applicable degree;

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation will accept and process applications for Recent Graduate positions up to 120 days prior to the actual graduation and conferring of an associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree. Final offers will be contingent upon completion of all educational requirements. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student and social). Volunteer work builds critical competencies, knowledge, and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
At the GS-7 and GS-9 grade levels, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications requirements described in the Qualifications section, the applicant must also meet one of the requirements from either Section A or Section B below.
SECTION A
At the GS-07 Grade Level:
Eligibility under the superior academic achievement provision and a bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.

One year of graduate education in the subject areas of actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science; AND a bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
OR
Combination of education and experience that includes both of the following requirements: One year of actuarial experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level; AND completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours of courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science at a four- year college or university. At the GS-9 Grade Level:
A master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in actuarial science; mathematics, statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science; AND a bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.

This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
Successful completion of appropriate examinations offered by the Society of Actuaries (SOA), the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), or the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries (JBEA), as evidenced by an official SOA or CAS transcript is fully qualifying at the grade levels shown below:
GS-07: Successful completion of one of the SOA or CAS examinations, or credit for one of the JBEA examinations.
GS-09: Successful completion of two of the SOA or CAS examinations, or credit for two of the JBEA examinations.
