1. Demonstrates successful performance in applying the nursing process to a varied Veteran population
2. Participates in performance improvement activities in the unit, service line and Medical Center.
3. Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the care of the skilled nursing, rehab, terminal, sub-acute and long-term care patient.
4. Demonstrates an excellent customer service philosophy with both internal and external customers.
5. Demonstrates collaborative relationships with the Inter-disciplinary teams in providing continuity of care to the patient.
6. Demonstrates self-motivation and independence in professional development, organization of tasks/assignments for the nursing team and in providing a safe patient care environment.
7. Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the completion of documentation and standards (i.e. CARF guidelines for rehab, sustaining care program and long term care).

The St. Louis VAMC is a full-service health care facility providing inpatient and ambulatory care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, neurology, and rehabilitation, as well as over 65 subspecialty areas. It is a two-division facility that serves veterans and their families in east central Missouri and southwestern Illinois.
The John Cochran Division has all of the medical center's operative surgical capabilities, the ambulatory care unit, and a six-story Clinical Addition that includes surgical facilities, intensive care units, outpatient psychiatry clinics, and expanded laboratory.
The Jefferson Barracks Division provides primary care, psychiatric treatment, regional spinal cord injury treatment, a Community Living Center (with hospice/pallative care unit, physical rehabilitation, skilled nursing units), geriatric health care, rehabilitation services, and a rehabilitation domiciliary program for homeless veterans.
