This position is located with the Incident Management Team (IMT). The mission is to effectively and efficiently manage the deployed resources in the field and to coordinate the activities of those resources to ensure successful completion of assigned missions. The IMT is activated when federal health service/missions are assigned in support of federal, state, local, territorial, and tribal requests for support during potential or actual natural or man-made emergencies, incidents, or National Special Security Events (NSSE). The IMT is scalable and may be tailored to meet the needs of the disasters, emergencies, incidents, or events. The IMT can respond with a short activation notice, deploy in support of response operations by rapidly establishing operating capability and assume control over public health and medical resources activated.
- Responds as a member of Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) Incident Management Team (IMT), serving as the Geographic Information System (GIS) Unit Lead within the Information Management Section. Plans and conducts GIS projects that include data capture, database design, data entry and retrieval, and formats for display and analysis, visualization and reporting of data.
- Applies GIS and statistical tools to develop products supporting Public Health and Medical (PH&M) response operations and critical information requirements. Supports the IMT in conducting statistical analysis; updating and maintaining geospatial databases; creating and customizing cartographic base maps and data, spatial analysis and spatial modeling; and maintaining online GIS systems, products, and data.
- Applies knowledge and experience in the areas of public health, GIS, emergency response/preparedness, data collection, data transformation, and integration of on-line GIS systems and digital & static reports and visualizations to produce high quality and well-designed cartographic representations of mission critical data.
- Evaluates data and information on geospatial issues provided by contractors, scientific consultants, state and local health departments, scientific staff, and the public to prepare geospatial analyses and products supporting public health and medical response requirements.
- Designs and develops databases to store, manage, retrieve and analyze data.
- Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of geographic information systems and public health.
- Participates in formal briefing and debriefing sessions at the beginning, during, and at the conclusion of a response.
