As an IT SPECIALIST (INFOSEC) TITLE 5, GS-2210-9/11, The purpose is to ensure compliance for information assurance throughout the organization.
1. Receives and reviews written guidance from a variety of Department of Defense (DoD), federal and state investigative and enforcement agencies and interprets for impact to the unit. Advises the commander on policy updates and changes. Implements and enforces established policy and guidance at the unit level. Coordinates with Wing Information Assurance Officer to ensure compliance and accreditation.
2. Directs actions required to prevent and/or correct information assurance deficiencies and violations. Exercises authority for denial of computer access and coordinates re-establishment of service.
3. Assures compliance with security policy for external connections to DoD networks and assures compliance with the national policies. Works with the System Security Manager to develop procedures to protect network information. Monitors all external network connections as necessary. Identifies and reports violations of system security. Administers firewalls and intrusion detection systems (IDS) and monitors unauthorized access. Implements virus protection plan.
4. Evaluates the effectiveness of systems, devices, procedures, and methods used to safeguard information in computer accessible media and ensures correction of all deficiencies on systems containing applicable security technologies.
5. Reviews/tests/updates continuity of operations plans (COOPS) and Security SOP's and actively participates in accreditation/re-accredidation processes.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification). Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

4.Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires one year of specialized experience at the next lower GS-grade (or equivalent). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT.
To qualify at the GS-09 grade level - must have one year experience equivalent to a GS-07
To qualify at the GS-11 grade level - must have one year experience equivalent to a GS-09
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):
Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
To qualify at the GS-09 grade level: Must have a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree
To qualify at the GS-11 grade level: Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
