The Office of the Director is seeking a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist to serve in the Safety & Health Section and report directly to the Chief, Safety & Emergency Management. The incumbent supports and provides technical advice to the VANCHCS corporate Safety and Health Program and assists the Safety Officer, and other Safety and Health Program Managers, in the administration and execution of the Safety and Health Program.

The incumbent assures the medical center meets or exceeds compliance with various national safety standards, including VHA Directives, Informational Letters or guidance, the Joint Commission Standards, National Fire Protection Association Guidance, OSHA, VISN, CARF, ANSI, CAP, and other recognized agencies, and must contribute to successful accreditation processes. This includes overseeing construction and safety at the main medical center, outpatient clinics, vet centers, research areas (in coordination with Research Safety) and review of contracted community placement centers; and representing the medical center at outside agency meetings and interacting with various regulatory agencies.
