The Macroeconomic Analysis Division is seeking a macroeconomist with a broad range of interests, including fiscal policy, public finance, and macroeconomic forecasting. The division assesses the macroeconomic effects of federal fiscal policy over the short and long runs, analyzes emerging developments in the economy, and prepares a semiannual economic forecast. The divisions portfolio of analysis covers a wide range of issues, including fiscal and monetary policy, international trade policies, immigration reform, and health care reform. The position involves analyzing such issues, writing reports describing the analyses, and carrying out original economic research. The successful candidate will contribute to the full range of the divisions responsibilities, which include constructing and improving cutting-edge models that underlie CBOs policy analyses, preparing longer-term studies, and assessing the economic effects of specific pieces of legislation. Staff members are encouraged to participate actively in policy research that is related to CBOs mission by presenting papers at conferences, publishing them as CBO working papers, and writing articles for professional journals.
Tier One Background Investigation
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics or a closely related discipline, such as public policy or applied statistics, or a masters degree with at least five years of relevant experience. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience in using macroeconometric and general equilibrium models. Excellent quantitative, writing, and interpersonal skills are essentialincluding the ability to communicate technical material clearly to a variety of audiencesas are the ability to work independently and the ability to complete projects under tight deadlines. Both junior- and senior-level candidates will be considered.
