The Quality Systems Section Chief RN, is a Registered Nurse with responsibility for the development, implementation and coordination and evaluation of program-specific policies, procedures, and activities throughout the organization.
The Incumbent is responsible to Chief Quality Systems Service and the medical center Director. The Incumbent works effectively with all levels of staff within the organization as well as with patients, family members and visitors in coordinating compliance with the established infection control policies and procedures; patient safety and risk management program processes; and performance improvement measures. The Incumbent promotes a climate of inter-service collaboration, cooperation, and understanding. The Incumbent serves as an advisor/consultant to all services on policy and issues related to Quality Systems Service; patient safety and risk management; and infection control. The Section Chief maintains contact with employees, supervisors, and managers at all levels within the immediate organization. The incumbent communicates effectively with all Service management staff, as well as persons outside of agency which may include consultants, contractors, or business executives in a moderately unstructured setting. S/he demonstrates interpersonal skills in presenting recommendations and negotiating solutions to disputed recommendations. The incumbent actively participates as a member of the Quality Systems team, demonstrating commitment to the team decision-making process and contributes positively and proactively to team discussions and supports team consensus decisions. The incumbent actively works to enhance personal ability to contribute to process improvements and teamwork functioning.
Individuals in this level may function in leadership roles that impact client care, organizational processes or systems to improve overall outcomes.
Supervises all staff in the Infection Control Program and Cancer Program. Responsible for writing center policies for the Infection Control Program, Infection Control Committee, and Cancer Program. Leads all aspects of the Infection Control Committee by compiling agenda items and reports. Assists Infection Control Committee chair person in leading the committee members.
Functions as the Quality Improvement specialist and oversees all aspects of the Cancer Program to maintain continual compliance with the Commission on Cancer standards.
Supervises all Certified Tumor Registrars.
Provides coverage for the Assistant Chief and Chief in QS Service as needed. Executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross service and/or discipline lines, influence organizational mission and health care, and responsibility for outcomes. The Section Chief is responsible for administrative functions of their assigned units/programs. Functions as an administrator, educator, and consultant utilizing management theory in collaboration with Quality Systems Service and other services. Must establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of medical center personnel and relate effectively with customers, families, and the community, as well as program and service leaders at the local and network levels.
