The GS-12 salary range starts at $82,696 (Fort Worth, TX), $78,190 (Austin, TX), $77,263 (San Antonio, TX) per year. If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.
The GS-13 salary range starts at $98,336 (Fort Worth, TX), $92,977 (Austin, TX), $91,876 (San Antonio, TX) per year. If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
GS-12:
In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience under a senior level Fire Protection Engineer and providing input into fire protection and prevention systems designs to include: making calculations and developing analyses and specifications for fire protection and prevention engineering features; performing reviews of fire protection and prevention systems; writing and reviewing specifications for fire protection and prevention systems; and, interpreting and applying fire codes, standards, and directives to designs and reviews.
GS-13:
In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience must demonstrate knowledge of fire protection engineering concepts, principles & practices applicable to the full range of engineering duties concerned with providing safe environment for buildings and operations by resolving fire protection and life safety problems.
