The Office of Aerospace Medicine develops and manages medical programs in support of Aviation Safety. The incumbent will perform multiple, varying, and complex assignments under the minimal direction of a manager, project/program manager, or more experienced technical specialist. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance and enforcement of the Federal drug and alcohol testing program regulations (49 CFR part 40 and 14 CFR part 120). Performs complex assignments and provides oversight and technical guidance for his/her team in the field office. Applies experience to independently conduct comprehensive investigations and inspections throughout the territories of the United States. Prepares, reviews and approves final reports of these investigations and inspections for his/her team; these reports may result in compliance, administrative, civil penalty, or certification action. Defines, organizes, and assigns resources to accomplish program and organizational objectives.
Provides expert testimony, and serves as a technical advisor to the FAA’s Office of Chief Counsel. Works across functional and organizational lines, often representing AAM, AVS, FAA as a senior technical point of contact communicating with stakeholders both internal and external to the FAA at all levels of management. Coordinates significant technical matters with representatives of external organizations.
Defines, organizes, and assigns resources to accomplish organizational objectives. Communicates policy, guidance, and instruction to team members and others, internally and externally, that promote personnel efficiency and cooperation. Provides guidance to lower-level staff on how to solve difficult technical issues. Resolves all problems but unique technical problems.
Work is rarely reviewed, typically through status reports. Work activities directly impact the objectives of AAM, AVS and FAA, ensuring the safety of the aerospace industry and flying public.
