Duties of the Staff Pulmonary-Critical Care (CC) Physician are to include, but not limited to:

1. Staff Pulmonary-CC physicians are ultimately responsible for the oversight of all aspects of pulmonary and critical care delivered to their assigned patients.
2. Staff Pulmonary-CC physicians provide or assist fellows, residents, medical students, and nurse practitioners in the proper evaluation and treatment of the patient, as well as actively participate in corrective actions when complications occur related to indicated medical/pulmonary-critical care interventions.
3. Staff Pulmonary-CC physicians directly assess hospitalized ward and ICU patients for changes in physical and/or mental status. A history and physical note, with the appropriate level of detail will be entered into the electronic medical record along with an appropriate assessment and treatment plan for acute and ongoing care as well as when the time comes for discharge planning, within 24 hours of patient contact. The note must demonstrate appropriate supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows in accordance with local medical staff bylaws. Notes also may include concurrence with notes written by fellows, residents, or students supervised by the appropriate pulmonary-CC staff physician.
4. Staff Pulmonary-CC physicians will also assess (in a timely manner) and recommend treatment for medicine ward patients they are consulted to evaluate for various pulmonary ailments. The assessment and treatment recommendations should be clearly communicated to the consulting inpatient physicians/team in both direct verbal and written (via electronic medical record)manner, in the appropriate level of detail for the question at hand. Staff pulmonary-CC physicians will maintain all VA-mandated certifications, including BLS, ACLS, airway management, and complete all required e-learning modules and other mandatory VA training requirements per medical center regulations. They will also code encounters/notes as required by the coding and billing office, and comply with efforts to close all open encounters.
Work Schedule: Part-Time 2/8ths, Variable-Day Shift-Rotating Weekends & Holidays.
