Provide outreach for readjustment counseling to eligible veterans and family members in the Vet Center program. Readjustment counseling includes individual and group counseling to veterans and family members over issues of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and related psychological difficulties, marital and family issues, substance abuse, employment, military sexual trauma, homelessness, bereavement, and other issues impacting upon a veteran's ability to successfully re-enter civilian society.

Basic Requirements:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Candidates MUST have a master's degree in social work, from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work.

Vet Centers provide outreach, direct readjustment counseling services, and refer Veterans to local services. The program is designed to provide easy to access services (with minimal bureaucratic barriers) to counter the effects of stigma in accessing mental health services. These services are provided in confidential, easy to access, Veteran friendly community-based locations.
