The Chief Nurse has the strategic, clinical and operational oversight responsibility for the provision of timely and continuous care in Sacramento Medical Center.

Has clinical oversight responsibility for the provision of timely and continuous high quality patient care related to Community Care delivered to patients throughout the VANCHS that is geographical area of 40,000 square miles in 17 counties. Accountable for the successful operation of the Community Care Service, and assures that the program meets its goals through direct collaboration within clinicians from primary care, specialty care, and ancillary care Divisions (Operative Care, Hospital and Specialty Medicine, Primary Care, Rehab & Long-Term Care, Mental Health, Imaging, Laboratory, Prosthetics, Pharmacy etc.) and with administrative programs such as the Business Office and Fiscal. Managerial responsibilities include development of strategic plans, forecasting the requirements necessary for long range planning and model development. The incumbent exercises initiative, considerable judgment and independence of actions in accomplishing responsibilities.
At the VA, Northern California Health Care System, the incumbent is responsible for a continuum of Community Care services, coordinated by staff dedicated to assuring the smooth and deliberate hand-off between VA and outside vendors. The inpatient programs include Community Hospital Acute Care, Respite, Substance Abuse Detox, Transitional Nursing Home Care, and Post- Acute Care. The following: Outpatient programs are included, but not limited to: Adult Day Health Care, Homemaker/Home Health Aide, Skilled Nursing, Dialysis, primary care, and specialty care services not provided by VA or meeting the requirements for placement in the community via Choice/Provider Agreements, contracts, or other arrangements with regional health care providers.
Serves as a participating member of the National Community Care Oversight Council. The incumbent has direct line responsibility for all team members in the care line and provides innovative leadership for a cultural transformation to the most effective care line configuration and function. Ensures that the Network mission, vision and values are achieved, while operating in accordance with Veteran Administration (VHA) policies, Network policies, and standards of federal professional and accrediting agencies external to VHA.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm
