The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: admission, work up, diagnosis, and provision of non-surgical treatment including consultation for Veterans admitted or in need of care to treat general medical problems. Providing consultative services to Veterans in the Long Term Care setting. Evaluating, diagnosing, and providing treatment in an outpatient setting or in the form of inpatient consultative services to Veterans of all ages presenting with illnesses and disorders of the blood and blood-forming tissues and/or malignant tumors. Performing and interpreting peripheral blood smears, bone marrow aspirations and biopsy. Administering of chemotherapeutic agents and biological response to modifiers through all therapeutic routes, including intrathecal chemotherapy, the management and care of indwelling venous access catheters, plasmapheresis and therapeutic phlebotomy. Providing consultative services on Veterans referred from other sections of the hospital and affiliated outpatient clinics. Participating in educational programs for Hematology/Oncology and physician personnel as well as medical staff. Participating in quality assurance programs and chart reviews. Incumbent is accountable to the Chief of Medicine assuring the most effective delivery of care in Hematology/Oncology services.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 4:30PM. Shared weekend and night calls.
