The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of duties including, but not limited to, the following:
- Providing technical and procedural expertise in the administration and coordination of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for the fluid minerals program in the Montana/Dakotas.
- Monitoring and providing quality control for all surface and subsurface drilling and production aspects of the fluid minerals program.
- Assisting with the development of budget, procurement, and equipment plans for fluid minerals activities.
- Providing technical expertise for field staff in the mitigation of environmental impacts expected to occur as a result of fluid minerals exploration and development by demonstrating expertise and leadership in incorporating Best Management Practices (BMPs), state-of-the-art mitigation measures applied on a site-specific basis to reduce, prevent, or avoid adverse environmental or social impacts.
-Facilitating collaboration with local communities, special interest groups, Indian tribes, and other land management agencies with respect to fluid minerals leasing issues, exploration, and development issues.

Basic Education Requirement:
This is an interdisciplinary position the in the Natural Resources 401 and Physical Science 1301 series. You must meet one of the following basic education requirements:
A) For the 401 Series: A Degree - biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; or Combination of education and experience that included at least 24 semester hours equivalent to a major show above plus appropriate experience or additional education.
-OR-
B) For the 1301 Series: A Degree - physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; or a combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement:
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-11) of the position to be filled. Such experience must have provided Knowledge of oil and gas development activities and how those activities are authorized on Federal lands; as well as knowledge of NEPA compliance that can withstand the rigors of legal challenges. Examples; completing NEPA analyses and documentation associated with fluid minerals planning efforts; providing technical expertise for surface and subsurface operations in the fluid minerals programs; and conducting quality and program reviews to assess effectiveness of guidance and execution.
