Plans and implements activities associated with the products and services provided by the Library Network Office (LNO) and the VACO Library. Knowledgeable about the electronic delivery of information, journal subscription services, and digital resource licensing. Work is performed in support of the VACO Library and the VA Library Network (VALNET), a health sciences library network of national significance employing more than 250 professional librarians and support staff. Provides access (including remote users) to and maintenance of online knowledge-based resources including online journals, books, full-text databases, and resource management software. Establishes journal accounts and registration. Integrates local purchases of online knowledge-based resources with nationally purchased resources for individual medical centers or provides assistance and instruction to VALNET staff to integrate their purchases. Assists with the management of the structure and content of multiple websites on both the internet and intranet: VACO Library, LNO, VALNET and National Desktop Library. Collaborates on coordinating the selection, organization, and presentation of new or updated packages of electronic databases, journals or books. Assists with collection control, access and maintenance of the library's online, print, audiovisual, and microfilm collections. Reviews and recommends weeding, retention and classification guidelines, policies and procedures for all areas of the library collections. Assists with serials control, claiming, accurate record of titles, title changes (e.g. SERHOLD). Maintains library print journal holdings in Serials Solutions (VHA created database). Serves as the backup to the primary searcher. Provides reference assistance to diverse audience including VACO staff, VALNET, researchers, Veterans & their families; assisting them with a broad range and complexity of reference questions. Assists/educates library patrons in the use of hardcopy and online resources (journals, books, databases). Provides support to VALNET, participates on committees, monthly hotline call, etc. Participates in local, state, regional and national information networks, fostering good working relationships with other health care information professionals. Keeps abreast of new developments in the library profession by reading the library literature, communicating with fellow librarians, and participating in National Network of Libraries of Medicine and Medical Library Association classes and applies new innovations to the local situation.
