This position is responsible for planning, directing, and executing all division functions. The Riverway's natural resource program encompasses inventory and monitoring; management to protect native species; and terrestrial restoration. Its cultural resources consist of museum collections and archives, historic sites and structures, and cultural landscapes. The interpretation and education program includes operation of two seasonal visitor centers, on- and off-site programming, interpretive media (publications, exhibits, audio-visual, digital), and public communications. The division chief also coordinates park planning and NEPA compliance.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.

Physical Demands: Most of the work involves sedentary office assignments. Works sometimes requires periods of strenuous physical activity including periods of standing, walking, climbing, paddling, and lifting of objects weighing up to approximately 50 pounds (i.e. video equipment, canoes, kayaks, etc.).Incumbent is required to operate motor vehicles and may be required to operate motorboats, kayaks or canoes.
Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily indoors. Occasionally, work may be performed outdoors in all types of weather and conditions. Outdoor assignments may be performed in potentially hazardous areas including steep slopes, rocky terrain, firelines, wetlands, forests and rivers.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

Please visit find a park for additional park information. The St. Croix National Scenic Riverway (NSR) is located in eastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. The St. Croix NSR protects 252 miles of river, including the St. Croix and Namekagon Rivers. The Riverway is one of the original eight rivers designated as a wild or scenic river. Camping is provided at designated NPS and state park sites. The Riverway is a popular destination for canoeing, boating, fishing, camping and hunting. All three duty stations are located in small communities in largely rural recreational areas. Located in eastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin, the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway (NSR) protects over 200 miles of the St. Croix and Namekagon Rivers. The Riverway, among the original eight rivers designated under the 1968 Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, preserves, protects and enhances free flow, water quality, aquatic resources, cultural resources, geology, recreation, riparian resources, scenic-aesthetic values, and rare upland habitats. Paddling, boating, fishing, camping, hiking, and wildlife watching are popular activities. Summer daytime temperatures are mild averaging 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit and nighttime temperatures averaging 60-70 degrees.
