Position requires at least four years experience related to golf course maintenance. College-level studies in horticulture, park management, turf culture or related subjects is desirable. A working knowledge of the game of golf is required. Must have ability to exercise diplomacy in dealing with the public and be a team leader. Must have knowledge of proper application of pesticides and possess or be able to obtain certification in herbicide application within six months of appointment. Supervisor experience desired.Works under the general supervision of the Golf Superintendent. The supervisor establishes overall objectives and goals. The incumbent establishes priorities and goals within these objectives and has some degree of freedom and responsibility to choose best means of accomplishing work in accordance with proper codes, established procedures and regulations. Acts for the Golf Superintendent in his/her absence. Work is reviewed in terms of overall condition of the grounds, timeliness of assignments and accomplishing goals. The incumbent ensures compliance with established Standard Operating Procedures and other directives relating to supervision and administration of personnel, finances, supplies property and equipment. Federal and state construction codes, federal public works requirements, OSHA and other pertinent safety and health regulations must be followed, including strict guidelines related to pest control operations for Navy shore activities. Work requires numerous different, related and unrelated processes, methods, and procedures to improve facilities, ensure safety and comfort , provide internal controls, accountability and proper handling of FLEET READINESS property. Judgment is exercised when selecting the proper action and method used. Work performance includes diagnosing fungi, pests and turf diseases and supervising proper corrective actions in accordance with established safety procedures and manufacturers’ recommendations. Independent judgment is required to choose best solution in many situations.Effective management will result in meeting the profit goals while providing a high level of service in support of the authorized patrons. The effect is an improve quality of life for the participant including health, fitness and family togetherness. The purpose of this position is to assist in providing an effective maintenance program for the Golf Course and to ensure the highest standards are met to offer a challenging and well maintained course.
