The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is seeking a full-time General Surgery section chief to join our team.
Education and length of practice will be considered by a Compensation Panel in determining the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay).

Duties of the General surgeon section chief include but are not limited to the following:
The surgeon would be responsible to teach and train residents and students. The surgeon should be able to diagnose and treat all of the common general surgical conditions, including malignancies, of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, small and large intestine), gallbladder, endocrine system, skin and soft tissue. Experience and interest in vascular access (AV fistula creation especially), upper and lower endoscopy, and advanced laparoscopy (hiatal hernia repair, intestinal resection, and even adrenal surgery) is preferred. The candidate will be expected to participate in call schedule after hours and at least one weekend a month, and will need to possess the ability to respond promptly in emergent situations. The candidate should be proficient in placement of central venous and arterial catheters, and should feel comfortable supervising others in their placement. The General Surgeon must adhere to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, all other required medical documentation, and performance measures in a timely fashion; will ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standards; will mentor, train and provide supervision for residents and mid-levels in all aspects of their duties as required; and performs other directly related duties as required.
As a Section Chief, the incumbent will report directly to the Associate Chief of Staff for Surgery all General Surgery related issues or reports and be the point of contact for that section line within Surgery service.
Preferred: Board eligible/Board certified general surgeon, preferably a graduate of an accredited (ACGME) residency program.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am to 4:30pm
