Performs simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities. Assists higher graded maintenance workers or tradesmen in the performance of their work. Performs minor carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools on such tasks as replacing broken planks on picnic tables; broken windows using precut stock; minor adjustments or replaces hinges, latches and catches. Performs minor painting using brush and roller according to specific instructions on projects where appearances are not critical such as staining picnic tables and trash barrels.Performs minor plumbing repairs such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures which do not require custom fitting or solder joints; replaces faucet washers; unplugs drains using a plunger; replaces liquid petroleum gas bottles. Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments according to established procedures. Reports discrepancies and damage to others responsible for such items.Performs routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearances. Collects trash. Operates a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work. Cleans and services chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities. Makes minor repairs as needed and refers problems to higher graded workers. Operates a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment not requiring special rigging. operating mowing machines, weed eaters, leaf blowers and UTV's(Utility Task Vehicle). Maintains a daily FMSS log of activities, and tracts daily work requests completed, logging all time, equipment, and material used.

Isle Royale National Park (ISRO): Isle Royale National Park is a large, remote and isolated island in northwestern Lake Superior. The park offers a superb setting for recreational opportunities such as boating, kayaking, canoeing, backpacking, camping, fishing, hiking and more. Isle Royale is located approximately 70 miles north of the park's administrative headquarters in Houghton, MI. The incumbent will be stationed on the island. Housing may be dormitory style with shared room and you are required to live on the Island in government housing. However, limited, short-term, guest housing is available for visiting family and friends. Isle Royale is 99% federally-designated Wilderness with no roads, few telephones, no cellular phone coverage, limited amenities and limited opportunity to travel to the mainland. Internet access for personal business on government computers is permitted during non-business hours. Groceries and other supplies are delivered weekly or bi-weekly depending on the incumbent's specific duty station on the island. To protect Isle Royale's fauna from disease and other maladies, pets are prohibited. Must live on the Island in government housing. ISRO positions required drug testing for motorboat operations. Houghton, MI: Some of the positions will require working at the mainland headquarters in Houghton, Michigan and living in the local area. Houghton is a town of approximately 8,000 residents and houses Michigan Technological University. The University has an average enrollment of 7,000. The bordering town of Hancock has a residential population of 4,300 and houses Finlandia University with an average enrollment of 400 students. Government housing for the Houghton-based positions is not provided. Average rents in the area range from $400 to $1,000 per month. Summers are mild with day-time temperatures ranging from 70 to 90 degrees, with boating, kayaking, road and mountain biking, camping, and hiking as popular summer activities.
Buffalo National Park (BUFF): The duty station is located Yellville, Arkansas. Yellville is a town of approximately 2,000 people located in north central Arkansas, about 30 miles south of the Arkansas-Missouri state line. There are several rental properties, as well as homes to purchase within Mountain Home, Harrison and Yellville areas. Hourly pay range from 15.65-18.25. Fort Larned NHS (FOLS): Fort Larned NHS is located six miles west of Larned, Kansas. Government housing is not available; however, houses and apartments are available to rent or to own in the nearby area. Elevation is 2,036 feet and the average rainfall is 23 inches. Summer temperatures sometimes exceed 100 degrees and winter temperatures of 20 degrees or lower are not uncommon. Hourly pay range from $20.64-24.08. Arkansas Post National Memorial (ARPO): is located on AR 169 seven miles south of Gillett via US 165. The park is 20 miles south of DeWitt and 20 miles northeast of Dumas. This position is a temporary position not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. The position may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is April through September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty is from April through May 2019.
Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
