Uses a wide variety of inspection techniques to inspect standard electronic systems such as radar, radio communications receivers, and transmitters (single band, UHF and VHF), mobile subscriber equipment (MSE), missile guidance systems, laser range finders, and electronic fire control systems. In addition, may inspect heavy mobile artillery, small arms, powered support, optical, and other equipment or components of equal or lesser complexity. Conducts inspections, diagnoses nature and extent of equipment malfunction, and as required, performs required maintenance to restore to a serviceable condition various types of tactical computers, radio sets, etc. Uses various types of test equipment such as systems tests sets, frequency meters, standing wave indicators, oscillators, AN/GRM-122s, and other electronic testing devices to inspect equipment and components. Inspects equipment when received to determine repairs needed and parts required. Inspects equipment to determine repairs needed. Utilizes established Maintenance Expenditure Limits (MEL) to evaluate economic feasibility of repair(s). Considers a variety of factors such as cost and availability of parts, man-hours, and impact of time constraints on the mission to assess whether repair is economical. Recommends to a higher echelon to condemn equipment when the repair cost exceeds the established MEL. Prepares lists of needed repairs, parts, and man-hours authorized. Performs in-process inspections to assure that equipment is being repaired in accordance with pertinent requirements. Performs final inspection, certifying that equipment is in satisfactory operating condition, or rejects the work and returns the equipment to the repair shop with specific reports prescribing additional repairs. All other duties as assigned.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:
Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. This situation describes application of a wide variety of inspection techniques to examine components, or assemblies of standard systems such as radar, navigational aids, radio communications receivers and transmitters (single band, UHF and VHF), mobile subscriber equipment, and signal generators. This equipment is equal to or exceeds the types of equipment listed under this situation in terms of complexity.
Supervision provides general instruction but gives little technical assistance during the course of the assignment. Work is reviewed largely for adequacy and conformance. At this level, instructions and guides are complicated, and require careful interpretation, and may involve modification in their application to specific work assignments. Level III describes a situation where the work is performed usually at a worksite where the supervisor is not readily available. However, supervision is readily available to this position for instruction, as necessary, Level III of the standard is not met.
This position requires complete complex systems or highly complex components, such as, radar, navigational aids, UHF & VHF radios, among others, as examples of what is inspected. This position requires the use of a variety of complex instruments and electronic testing devices to inspect equipment and components. Degree A is met. This position does not meet Degrees B and C because it does not involve inspection of work done by workers in several discrete trades or the higher levels of systems and work required.
