The GI Care Mgr is a RN who utilizes the nursing process to assess, coordinate, facilitate and deliver nursing care to GI Services patients throughout the Northern California VA System. Nursing care responsibilities include but are not limited to: nursing evaluation and management of GI, Pulmonary and Endoscopic procedures etc. Develops and coordinates care and utilizes quality assurance programs to monitor the delivery of care.

Responsible for the delivery of all aspects of patient care including procedural sedation and serves as resource to the GI Services. Participate in GI Clinic procedures including but not limited to EGD, Colonoscopy, EUS, Capsule Endoscopy and ERCP. The RN systematically assesses the health status of individuals and record related health data, establishing nursing diagnoses, planning and implementing nursing interventions, providing health education and pre, intra, and post procedure education to patients and significant others. Evaluates outcomes of nursing intervention and initiating change when appropriate. Makes ethical and moral decisions surrounding patient care acting sensitively with consideration to the diversity of the patient or group. Able to assist the physician during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and assist in the mgt of follow up care. Collaborates optimal patient outcomes by team collaboration, collaborating with other health care professionals to ensure quality/continuity of care. Responds to emergency situations to promote optimal patient outcomes. Documents patient data to ensure continuity in the provision and coordination of patient care and assists in the mgt of follow up care. Serves as a patient advocate, within the limits of the law. Acts as a resource for others, serving as a mentor for other nurses and staff. Coordinates research activities in the GI section including overseeing multi-center controlled studies. Recognize opportunities for research studies. Participates as an active member in professional and consumer organizations, contributing to professional publications, and presenting at professional meetings. Participates in data collection for research using evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes. Monitors performance by developing and participating in performance improvement activities. Provide staff education on different processes in GI and updating staff with strategic planning in terms of patient care Implements a case-mgt program to improve planning of GI service including updating the patient informed consent (IMED) process, establish performance measures, and coordinate plans to improve patient education and improve access for screening colonoscopy. Participates in continuing education and achieving/maintaining certification. The RN must be able to administer and evaluate pharmacological and other therapeutic treatment.
Work Schedule: Mon-Friday 10 hr shifts (40hrs/week)
