The Economic Research Staff works to ensure that research effectively informs ILAB programs, policies, and products.
Major duties for this position include but are not limited to, the following:
Serves as a senior economic advisor to the Deputy Under Secretary, Associate Deputy Undersecretary, Office Director, and other senior officials on a variety of responsibilities and assignments that relate to ILAB's responsibilities for international labor policies, activities, and programs.
Independently formulates and carries out complex economic studies directed at analyzing the broad economic impact of policy alternatives in the assigned technical area.
Organizes and conducts extensive research activities for programs, initiatives, or international organizations, and prepares recommendations, reports, and briefings.
Reviews and critiques draft and final research papers and reports, and assures that research studies are analytically sound and appropriately geared to the policy development and implementation process.
Represents DOL in negotiations on policy matters in international fora to ensure U.S. priorities are reflected.
Prepares relevant reports, papers, talking points, briefing books, memos, letters, proposals, and background papers, including Congressional-mandated reports for the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Deputy Undersecretary, and others as directed.

Basic Requirement:
A. Degree: Economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
To qualify for the GS-14 grade level, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-13, in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as analyzing international labor issues, working with quantitative data from international organizations or foreign countries, performing economic research, and providing technical advice on economic issues.
