As an RN assigned to the 5 East (Inpatient Surgery), the nurse is primarily responsible for applying the nursing process to the care of veteran patients admitted to the 5 East section of the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System. The RN is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process. The RN assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components. The RN assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. The incumbent considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences. The RN administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. The RN influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. The core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs. In addition, the nurse delivers fundamental, knowledge-based care to adult and geriatric patients while developing technical competence in accordance with the Michigan Nurse Practice Act, Medical Center, and VAHQ standards of practice. The incumbent provides direct nursing care to individual and groups of patients under the guidance and direction of the Unit/Nurse Manager.
As a Staff Nurse you will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems; and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade. Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.
Work Schedule: 3:30 p.m. to Midnight/7:30 p.m. - 8:00 a.m., rotating weekends and some holidays
