The Executive Director provides executive leadership and oversight of the management of all VA SES career and non-career and limited term SES, SLs, PAS, Schedule C, Veteran Law Judges, Experts, Consultants and Title 38 equivalent positions, as well as provides the critical oversight and guidance necessary to generate an aggressive results-driven approach to senior executive recruitment and retention.

The Executive Director, working through subordinate managers and staff, is responsible for SES policy development, senior level workforce planning initiatives and executive level resources development, and legislative changes. The incumbent advises on relevant policy issues on those matters affecting CSEMO's mission, vision and functions. He/she makes authoritative recommendations to VA officials for resolving appropriate key, critical sensitive and controversial issues.
The Executive Director is responsible for special projects requiring executive resource operations or program-related support to address issues typically derived from congressional, legislative, or other internal and external stakeholder intervention. These projects normally require dedicated use of resources for a determined period of time and are accompanied by clearly stated requirements, milestones, goals,and objectives. The Executive Director is responsible for convening teams/task forces, as appropriate, providing executive leadership, and overseeing designated projects through to completion. Provides strategic consulting services to the Secretary, and other key officials within the Department about effective executive management approaches to achieve the best and most efficient business practices and processes. Develops data repositories and analytic and statistical methods to manage the workforce and inform compensation and benefits decisions.
Advises and supports the Department's Executive Resources Board (ERB), Performance Review Board (PRB), and the Presidential Rank Awards (PRA) Board.

The Senior Executive Service (SES) is comprised of the men and women charged with leading the continuing transformation of government. These leaders possess well-honed executive skills and share a broad perspective of government and a public service commitment. VA structures its SES positions into pay bands. This is a pay band 3 position and the salary range is $126,148 - $174,500. Exceptions to the cap of the range may be considered in certain circumstances.
CSEMO provides comprehensive management of VA's geographically-dispersed Senior Executive Service (SES) (title 5 and title 38) workforce and Political Appointees.
