The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant assigned to BHHCS VAMC is responsible for performing a variety of technical support duties that facilitate the work of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, nursing assistants, and other members of the medical facility who provide direct patient care. Incumbent is responsible for initiating and carrying out a wide range of administrative functions associated with providing the overall care and treatment for all veterans and non-veterans reporting to the Medical Center. Important interfaces and collaborations also occur with larger health care system providers including VA and non-VA specialists, hospitals, diagnostic and treating facilities, and community based programs. In addition to their routine functions, they often receive face-to-face and phone requests, orders with varying degrees of urgency, and equipment issues that need attention. This requires the ability to operate effectively under fast-paced and often changing conditions, and to utilize organizational skills by appropriately responding to and prioritizing work tasks. Incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day workload flow, assuring that workload is assessed and distributed among the MSAs. Incumbent keeps in contact with status of work in order to make necessary adjustments in accordance with established priorities. Incumbent assures on-the-job training for any new MSA in accordance with established policies and procedures, assuring that all work units are covered. The incumbent will have thorough knowledge of the Medical Center policies, procedures and directives in order to provide guidance and interpretation to clinical staff and other MSAs. Maintains pertinent manuals in current status for reference purposes, participates in collection of data and preparation of reports for Quality Assurance monitors. Safeguarding patient health data is crucial to this position, and the incumbent must be familiar with governing regulations and procedures for insuring data is properly used and stored. The incumbent is responsible for oversight, assuring all general administrative functions are completed according to standards.
