The Office of the Secretary (OST) oversees the formulation of national transportation policy and promotes intermodal transportation. Other responsibilities range from negotiation and implementation of international transportation agreements, formulation of international transportation policy for use by the Secretary, the Deputy Secretary, the Under Secretary, and the Assistant Secretary.
The Office of International Transportation and Trade is responsible for formulating, coordinating and executing the international transportation and transportation trade-related policy of the United States and for leading transportation trade negotiations within the U.S. negotiating team. The Office develops transportation trade negotiating positions with respect to foreign countries; coordinates negotiating policy, strategy and positions with the U.S. Trade Representative and other agencies and with the U.S. transportation industry; and conducts or participates in those negotiations. The Office also leads the Department’s engagement in reviewing appropriate foreign direct investment matters related transportation.
You will represent the Department as a recognized trade policy and foreign direct investment expert for appropriate negotiations, programs and initiatives, demonstrating leadership in researching, formulating and negotiating positions on behalf of the Department and providing policy advice on international transportation and trade policy matters of concern to the Office Director, and other Departmental and government officials. The incumbent also serves as liaison with industry executives; and leads research and analyses essential to the development of international transportation and trade policy.
IDEAL CANDIDATE: OST is looking for a seasoned, motivated and self-reliant professional who can share foreign trade and direct investment analysis and expertise in formulating trade policy or negotiating international bilateral transportation and trade agreements between the United States and foreign Governments. This position is in the DOT building, which sits directly across the street from the Metro and a few blocks away from the National’s Baseball stadium.
