These positions are temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for is late August to mid November , but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: August 26, 2018.

This position is in the Youth Programs Office in the Division of Administration and is supervised by the Education Program Manager. As a primary instructor for the park's curriculum-based residential program, the incumbent will engage students in educational lessons and activities from established curricula for the park's residential program for grades 4 - 8 as well as conduct educational programs for other visiting schools. The incumbent also plans, coordinates, and conducts formal education outreach at schools and community and educational events. The incumbent will present distance learning programs to schools and organizations using Skype or other video conferencing software. Programs are designed to serve large, underserved, and diverse audiences, both regionally and nationally and complex and controversial issues with multiple points of view are presented in an unbiased and diplomatic manner. Incumbent researches, develops, and presents curriculum-based professional education programs; completes statistical reports, site bulletins, spreadsheets, and other written assignments using computer software programs (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, desktop publishing, etc.); establishes and maintains effective working relationships with representatives of schools and other organizations to promote effective partnerships and implement the mission and goals of the park. Education technicians operate a sedan, light truck, 4 X 4 SUV, or snowmobile.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands: Duties require both indoor and outdoor activities in a wide range of temperatures and climatic conditions during all seasons of the year. The position includes leading hikes on uneven terrain for more than two hours. The work environment is often one of high stress caused by long hours, heavy workloads, short deadline, and caring for minor children who are away from their parents in a multi-day overnight camp environment for the first time. Work is in bear and other large mammal habitats.
Work Environment: The incumbent works in a northern mountainous park with fluctuations in temperature from 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer to -30 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter. Snow depths during the winter may vary from two to six feet. Elevation ranges from 5,000 to 11,000 feet. The emotional environment is most commonly one of high stress - high workloads, tight deadlines, and the demands of multiple projects on independent timelines. Work is performed in an office setting and outdoors.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
