Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

This intern position is designed to prepare a student trainee for employment after graduation as an Electronics Engineer. Intern will be assigned tasks designed to increase familiarity with the target occupation in a real world work environment.
This opportunity follows a standard promotional path:
1. Internship selection will be made at the GS-04. These grade levels are what typical college students in their third year may qualify.
2. Within 120 days after completion of Internship requirements, you may be eligible for conversion to the entry-level for the target occupation. Entry level for this position is typically at the GS-05 level. The actual grade level at the time of conversion depends on academic achievement and other factors.
3. The full performance level of this position is GS-12.
4. Progression from the entry-level to the full performance level for this occupation will depend on successful completion of all requirements for promotion. Promotions may be considered after a year at each grade level, but are not guaranteed to occur on a specific time schedule.
Receives instruction designed to familiarize intern with functions and operations of the organization, and to provide experience In the practical application of a large body of standard engineering techniques and concepts associated with information technology resources, and other physical assets.
As a trainee, performs duties that are designed to orient the intern to National Park Service programs and provides training In the extensive concepts, regulations, policies, guidelines, and practices associated with information technology as related to National Park Service resources. Assignments are designed to provide varied experiences in the application of principles, procedures, and work techniques to actual operating situations.
Accompanies and observes higher graded employees and/or the supervisor In their presentation of briefings, lectures, multi-media shows, etc. May select presentation formats, assist in complex presentations, and may conduct presentations.
Researches technical reports, products, or other documents to obtain information for higher graded specialists or professionals. Assists in the preparation of graphs, charts or tables for use by others.
Provides assistance to project teams for engineering task orders which may include collection of government provided data and materials for task orders, researching files, correspondence, previous studies, surveys, etc.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
Promotion to the full performance level is neither guaranteed nor implied and will be based solely on your ability to satisfactorily perform the work of the position, existing work at the higher grade level, and recommendation by the position's supervisor.
If selected, you will be required to sign a Pathways Agreement which specifies the conditions of your employment as we've indicated in this job announcement. You must continue to meet the Pathways Program requirements throughout the duration of your appointment. To verify that you do, we will require proof of your continued enrollment and good standing each semester or grading period throughout your internship. Failure to do so will result in termination of your internship and employment.
Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; and, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items.
Working Conditions: The work environment is comprised of the conventional office with periodic travel to park sites. The work involves moderate risk and exposure to moving equipment or machines, engine exhaust, associated high levels of noise, and outdoor weather conditions involving exposure to cold/hot, rain/sun, and a variety of other park conditions/features such as streams, rivers, or other bodies of water. Safety precautions may be required such as hard hats and steel toed boots.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
