The positions are located in various Federal Transit Administration (FTA) offices. Student Trainees will receive opportunities for learning in a professional work environment that focuses on transit career-related fields. The vision of success is to provide student Trainees the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience and build leadership skills. Participants in the program will be exposed to the Federal work environment and will learn the mission of the Federal Transit Administration and it's role and responsibilities to the public transportation industry.

The Pathways, Student Intern (Community Planner):
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position has an education requirement. You MUST provide UPDATED transcripts that show any/all degrees conferred, current grades and registration with cumulative GPA to support your educational claims (acceptance letter is also required if applicable to current academic status).
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in community planning; or related field such as urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or public administration that included at least 12 semester hours in the planning process, socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, urban and regional economic analysis, and development finance.
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. HERE.
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the education requirements for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.
GS-5: Completion of four academic years post-high school study leading to a bachelor’s degree; OR bachelor’s degree.
GS-7: Completion of one academic year of graduate level education; OR bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement* as defined in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Operating Manual for Qualification Standards; OR five academic years of pre-professional study.
GS-9: Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.

This is an Excepted Service appointment. As a part of the Pathways Internship Program, the appointment may be extended until the selectee's educational program requirements have been completed. The student intern may be converted without a break in service to a term (time-limited) or permanent appointment upon graduation, to a position that has a career ladder target up to the GS-12, provided they are a US citizen who has worked at least 640 hours in an appropriate program and receive a favorable recommendation from the supervisor for retention. There is no guarantee of a permanent position following this internship. Selectee is on a trial period while on a Pathways Internship appointment.
