This position is a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist (VRS) in the Compensated Work Therapy programs which consist of four of twelve programs in the Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Service. This position requires innovative strategies, interventions, and approaches in working with patients who, historically have had very limited success in the vocational arena due to a variety of physical, mental and emotional handicaps. The primary role of this position entails interfacing with prospective employers in the community to increase the likelihood of placing Veterans in transitional work settings, and development of competitive jobs as well as developing and implementing training programs to provide new job skills for the patients.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
-Plan, develop and implement program components, ensuring an efficient utilization of program resources, policies, and clinical activities, identifying and correcting program deficiencies and collecting outcome data.
-Respond to consultation requests for vocational services from the treatment teams within Mental Health Services. The majority of these referrals constitute the need for specialized procedures due to the severity of the patient's physical and mental health challenges, i.e., patients with orthopedic impairments, psychiatric disorders, serious emotional disabilities, and major deficiencies in basic education, job skills, or with serious problems of adjustment.
-Design, develop and implement a program to provide vocational assistance to all eligible Veterans who could benefit from such services.
-Network with program stakeholders in the local, regional and state business and industrial community, government and other agencies providing vocational services.
-Serve as a consultation/liaison and resource individual to the treatment teams and VRSs.
-Consult with other HCHV staff in the development of an individualized service plan in collaboration with the eligible Veteran, taking into account their skills, abilities, needs, preferences, motivation in establishing long-term goals with timeliness and discharge date.
-Continuously assess and monitor Veteran's progress throughout the program, identify strengths and weaknesses, opportunities, threats and provide counseling as necessary.
-Work closely with other VRSs and treatment staff regarding patient's progress and/or problems.
-Contact representatives of community agencies, training facilities, and employers regarding training/employment opportunities for Veterans, establish job placements, and provide conjoint counseling to determine suitable employment for Veterans.
-Supervise Veterans in Transitional Work Experience (TWE) settings, is responsible for oversight of work, training on special equipment and maintenance of a safe and therapeutic working environment.
-Serve as Lead VRS, in this capacity, discuss, investigate, and respond to CWT staff grievances; and dissatisfactions in order to resolve conflict.
-Serve as service and facility-level committees and task forces as requested; and functions within other areas of HCHV as needed.
