The Hospital Medicine Section at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center (DC VAMC) invites Board Certified physicians to apply for a full time position in our established hospitalist group. DC VAMC is a tertiary care center and the hospitalist section is responsible for patient care on the general medical ward as well as on the medicine consult service. Students from two medical schools and four Internal Medicine residency programs come together on the medical wards to create a stimulating academic environment. The hospitalist physicians are responsible for supervising and teaching Internal Medicine residents and students in direct inpatient care and medicine consultative services while providing excellent care to hospitalized veterans at the DC VAMC.
The section is committed to the professional and academic development of its members who are actively engaged in medical education, leadership, research, and quality improvement at the local and national level. Additionally, our section is dedicated educators and is regularly recognized for excellence in teaching and medical education.
Responsibilities include supervising and teaching of internal medicine residents and students with direct patient care (admissions, discharges, ongoing care of medical patients) along with the consultative service. Call, weekend, and holiday schedules are coordinated with the Hospitalist Section's Leadership. Additional duties include participation in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives and utilization review. The hospitalist physician would be expected to participate in continuing academic and professional development. Successful candidates would qualify for a faculty appointment at our academic affiliates.
Training and experience in the following areas is preferred: quality improvement, medical education, leadership, or research.
Work Schedule: To be determined based on the needs of the service to include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and/or weekends.
