At the full performance level, the position serves as the Environmental group’s lead biologist establishing schedules and implementing biological programs. Prepares, evaluates, and conducts assessment such as biological analyses of Western projects to ensure compliance with Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, and other natural resource protection legislation. Prepares or reviews NEPA-related documents, such as environmental impact statements (EIS) and environmental assessments (EA), biological and threatened and endangered species sections of NEPA documents, and biological assessments (BA). Establishes and maintains liaison, to coordinate and participate in public agency workshops, meetings, and negotiations to communicate, clarify or present Western’s environmental policies regarding biological issues. Serves as project manager and Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative. Work requires extensive field work and exposure to: hot, cold, and/or we weather conditions; rough, hilly and uneven terrain, and such hazards as snakes and insects.

Basic Requirements:
1. Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in an accredited college or university that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR 2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as show in in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
