The Clinical/Senior Social Worker provides a full range of Mental Health services to the population enrolled in the Outpatient Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Clinic at the Huntington, WV VAMC. The Senior Social Worker has demonstrated advanced knowledge of and mastery of specialized SUD interventions and evidence based treatment modalities.
The Senior Social Worker will have at least two years of specialized social work practice in the addictions field with a strong preference for addictions certification. The Clinical/Senior Social Worker will be licensed at the advanced practice level and utilizes DSM-5 to make clinical psychiatric diagnoses. In addition to providing individual and group psychotherapy, they will complete comprehensive assessments, advocate, coordinate care and link Veterans to other appropriate VA or community service providers / agencies as needed. This is accomplished in collaboration with other members of the SUD Team.
The Clinical/Senior Social Worker will develop and implement methods for measuring effectiveness of clinical services. They are responsible for modification of service patterns to improve treatment services. The Clinical/Senior SUD Social Worker may be tasked with overseeing referral coordination services to ensure a continuum of care is available. The Clinical/Senior SUD Social Worker will be tasked with implementing/monitoring measurement based care to assess outcomes of care, treatment or services. Familiarity with standardized tools or assessments for the substance use disorder population is needed.
The Clinical/Senior Social Worker is responsible for developing the treatment plan, and setting achievable treatment goals with the veteran/family. The treatment plan will be completed by the patient's third visit for mental health services. The plan will be updated annually or more frequently if there is a change in the patient's condition or needs. Also the social worker is experienced in making rapid assessments and developing crisis management plans for admission to mental health inpatient programs. Social worker has access to multiple resource directories in addition to previously developed resources to meet the demands of a crisis. In the event of a medical or psychiatric emergency, staff will follow the protocol of the mental health clinic at the VA Medical Center.
The Clinical/Senior Social Worker effectively communicates with and utilizes other disciplines (e.g., nursing, medicine) to facilitate treatment planning and implementation. With few exceptions, participates effectively in team meetings, treatment planning conferences, etc. Collaborates with divergent multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, typically 8:00am to 4:30 pm , evening hours, as needed
Physical Requirements: The work may require accommodating the needs of physically disabled veterans. Day-to-day work involves sitting, walking, standing and carrying light objects such as medical records. Normal duties of a clinician are performed (i.e., walking, standing, sitting, working with hands, etc.). Incumbent will be expected to carry items weighing between 15-44 pounds.
